Scholarships

In addition to these scholarships, most of our post-graduate students teach as tutors in our undergraduate units, thereby supplementing their income and gaining valuable teaching experience. The Faculty of Science provides support for research and overseas linkage, including $5000 per full time research year (for at least 3 years). These funds are typically used to support research costs such as field or laboratory expenses but can also be used for conference visits. Additionally, all post-graduate students can apply once during their candidature for the Macquarie University Postgraduate Research Fund, which supports conference visits and similar activities that enhance the research thesis.

 

What we can offer to PhD students

Please get in touch if you are interested to discuss a PhD with us. We can arrange appropriate meetings for you. If necessary and if you are competitive for a scholarship, we can support your travel for a visit.
Scholarships, either APA or MQRES (http://www.research.mq.edu.au/students/scholarships)
Scholarships extending over 3.5 years
$6000 p.a. of research support towards materials and travel, under the student's own control
Access to Macquarie University Postgraduate Research Fund (up to $4000 for research support or international conference travel)
Tutoring experience (and pay) in appropriate undergraduate units. These will be structured to give you progressively increasing responsibility through the course of your PhD, and you will develop a tertiary teaching portfolio to carry into your subsequent career
A range of intensive short-courses to sharpen your research skills, but using a maximum of 5 days per year of your time
